Recipes for Life

Recipes for Life is a hands-on program for youth ages 13 to 16 that builds independence through practical cooking and life skills. Participants learn meal planning, budgeting, nutrition, kitchen safety, food handling, and basic cooking techniques while preparing recipes together.
Through interactive activities, youth develop problem solving, decision making, teamwork, and budgeting skills. By the end of the program, participants gain confidence in the kitchen, improve food management skills, and acquire practical knowledge they can apply at home and in daily life.

Recipes for Life covers such topics as:

  • Meal Planning 
  • Nutrition: healthy food choices, nutrition basics 
  • Budget and Grocery Shopping 
  • Kitchen safety, food handling and storage 
  • Working with Food: ingredient prep, cooking methods 
  • Following Instructions: reading and following recipes
  • Cooking/Baking Skills
  • Communication and teamwork 
  • Time management 
  • Problem Solving and Adapting 
  • Building confidence and independence
  • Food Storage and safe preservation

Equipment needed: Food Storage Containers for left-overs, Apron and hair ties (If the participant has long hair).
Participants are expected to attend all four sessions.

Note: Meals will not be ready to eat until 3:30 p.m. This is not a lunch program, please ensure your child is given lunch, so they are not hungry during the program.

Program Dates: Fridays, Nov. 6, 20, Dec 4, and Jan. 22 from 1 - 4 p.m.
Location: Scout Hall
